Vinyl Stickers Installation

IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE READ

Our UNCUT vinyl stickers are NOT designed for installation on the painted bodies of cars or trucks. Metal temperatures under direct sunlight can exceed the maximum temperature threshold for the decal, leading to failure.

  • Anti-fouling Paint: Affixing underwater decals to a stern drive previously treated with anti-fouling paint will result in the loss of the decal.
  • Surface Preparation: Surfaces must be degreased prior to application. Fiberglass must be polished. Do not apply decals to "chalky" or oxidized fiberglass, as it will ruin the 3M adhesive backing.

Sterndrive Application (Underwater Use)

Underwater decals must be installed at an ambient temperature above 60°F (16°C) and require 24 hours of curing time before being submerged. For underwater use we recommend Die-Cut UV DTF stickers we offer.

Pro Tip: We strongly suggest applying a layer of clear water-based polyurethane to the sticker’s surface. This protects the sticker from delamination caused by metal decomposition or salt accumulation.

Above-Water Application

  1. Prepare a Blue Glass Cleaner Solution: Use brand like Fantastic
  2. Wet the Surface: Apply the glass cleaner generously to the application area.
  3. Positioning: Remove the adhesive backing and apply the decal. The blue glass cleaner solution allows you to slide and reposition the decal with ease.
  4. Finalize: Once the decal is in position, use a dry paper towel to squeeze out any remaining solution from underneath. Let it dry for 3 hours.

Image Quality and Materials

There are two primary types of boat graphics:

  1. Plain Vinyl: Single or two-color silhouette cut-outs (no shadows or gradients).
  2. Photographic: Multi-color, dimensional imagery printed with specialized inks.

9xmarine specializes in Multi-color, dimensional imagery printed with specialized inks. We use a high-grade "plastic-based" material rather than standard vinyl, which features a thin emulsion film to lock in ink. To ensure the cold lamination adheres correctly and provides maximum longevity, we balance ink saturation with material durability.

  • Warning: Do not use cleaning or degreasing chemicals containing solvents, on our stickers. It will dull the top film.
